London Camanachd is re-establishing interest in shinty in London.

What is shinty?  Shinty is a fast and physical stick and ball sport with roots in the Highlands of Scotland.  The object of the game is to score more goals than the opposition.  The ball may be played with either side of the stick, often called the caman, and may be played on the ground or in the air.  Tackling is strong, and players may strike their opponent’s caman from underneath in order to gain possession of the ball.

How can I get involved in shinty in London?  London Camanachd is the London shinty team.  They normally train at Wandsworth Common on Sunday afternoons.  Please contact graham.love.05@aberdeen.ac.uk for times and travel details.

Where else can I get involved in shinty?  Shinty is primarily played in the Highlands of Scotland, and is run under the Camanachd Association, www.shinty.com. The sport is spreading to England, and teams can now be found in Cornwall and Northallerton. Further afield, there is an active shinty scene in the US, with teams in Massachusetts, Oregon and California.
